About the Job
The Housing and Homeless Intake Specialist is responsible for vetting individuals for homelessness based on the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)'s definition, by using a screening assessment during the interview, and prioritizing those with the highest acuity for housing resources.
Job Responsiblities:
- Completing intake assessments with 95% accuracy.
- Conduct outreach to locations where unhoused persons can be located.
- Network with community stakeholders and providers.
- Determine homelessness based on the definition from HUD.
- Interview applicants with the use of screening questions to prioritize need.
- Refer applicant to appropriate agencies.
- Add clients to case conferencing.
- Provide care coordination through case management.
- Participate in CHN activites, staff, and department meetings.
- Abide by all CHN, federal, state, and county policies, procedures, and mandates.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Always represent the agency in a positive manner.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent reading skills.
- 1 year experience in a customer service environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public and applicants.
- Ability to maintain positive demeanor.
- Flexible under pressure.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience working with the unhoused and low income (preferred).
- Work may be performed in a setting where there may be unsanitary conditions and physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, smell, and may include other discomforts associated with unsheltered individuals.
- Work may involve driving your personal vehicle to off-site meetings and home visits.
